About NATURE STONE - Stone and Epoxy Flooring Company

NATURE STONE is the largest stone and epoxy flooring company in the United States. Founded in 1989, NATURE STONE  engineered a specially formulated, patent-pending, propriety epoxy resin made especially for use in stone and epoxy flooring. This special epoxy is what gives NATURE STONE flooring its beauty, durability and long-lasting qualities. No other stone and epoxy flooring company can compare in quality to authentic Nature Stone flooring.

NATURE STONE has served over 30,000 residential and commercial customers and has installed over 10 million sq. ft. of stone and epoxy flooring.

Years ago, Russ Masetta, owner and founder of NATURE STONE, began a concrete resurfacing business and quickly became frustrated with the limited options available for resurfacing concrete floors. Patching concrete worked, but the end result wasn't very attractive. Masetta began searching for something to improve the appearance of the concrete.

He had seen a stone and epoxy mix that was used in Florida for patios, but he wondered what effect Ohio's harsh winters would have on the product. So he began experimenting with different epoxy formulas mixed with small river stones.

He discovered a remarkable product—one that was beautiful and, at the same time, had many remarkable product attributes and customer benefits. Water could pass through it (which is a highly desirable product attribute); it was stain and salt resistant; it could correct uneven floors; it was slip resistant; it was permanent and required a minimum of maintenance.

NATURE STONE flooring not only worked in cold climates, it had enormous additional benefits; it could eliminate the puddling that comes from snow tracked into garage floors; it could instantly transform cold concrete basement floors into attractive recreation rooms; it was perfect for laundry rooms and wet, damp, flood-prone basements since it couldn't be harmed by water or flooding.

Today, NATURE STONE is the largest stone and epoxy flooring company in the United States. The innovative stone and epoxy flooring Masetta pioneered over 22 years ago has become an industry of its own. And Masetta is still experimenting, investing heavily into research and development to assure customers the best possible materials and installation processes.

NATURE STONE flooring uses a high quality epoxy blend as a base. That base is mixed with the finest quality river stone available, then topped with a protective top coat of the extremely durable and non-yellowing epoxy to create flooring that is longer lasting, retains its gloss, offers UV protection and retains its strength and product quality over time.

In 2004, as stone and epoxy flooring was evolving into an industry of its own, Masetta, served as the Professional Remodelers of Ohio (PRO) Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee and was a Trustee of the Better Business Bureau. He led the drive to register home improvement contractors in Ohio which resulted in the introduction of House Bill 461 the Home Improvement Contractor Law. Although the bill did not pass, Masetta remains committed to developing quality standards for the stone and epoxy flooring industry.

"I didn't start out to be the largest,” says Masetta. “I was just trying to make a living. In creating this business, though, we've created an entire industry and, right now, the industry does not have any government or building code standards. It's ‘buyer beware’ so I'm devoting a great deal of my time to convincing government officials that standards are critical to protecting customers."

Masetta has given product seminars to contractors and architects on what constitutes stone and epoxy flooring and how products can be evaluated. He has also developing educational materials for customers.

"You need to know what you are buying," Masetta says. "Quality really does matter when you’re buying stone and epoxy flooring. They may all look alike at first, but that’s where the similarity ends. The right epoxy, the right stone and the right stone-to-epoxy ratio mix are critical to a beautiful, long-lasting, quality floor. The proper thickness is important, too. Otherwise, the flooring will not hold up to daily wear and tear and will break down."

What’s next for NATURE STONE? Masetta says he will continue to expand both regionally, nationally, and even internationally, through company-owned locations and licensed dealers. Masetta receives many requests for dealerships but wants to manage the company's growth cautiously in order to assure the continuing high quality of his product.

NATURE STONE is truly a unique success story. After more than 22 years, the company has made its mark with its unique products and its focus on quality and customer service. Throught NATURE STONE's charitable giving program, the company has been fortunate to donate more than $700,000 to more than 200 different charities throughout the communities where they do business.

NATURE STONE has offices (with showrooms) in Bedford (Cleveland), Columbus and Youngstown, Ohio.
